ENDORSEMENT REQUIREMENTS

ELEMENTARY EDUCATION PREK-6

To become eligible for this endorsement, the applicant must complete an approved teacher preparation program in Elementary PreK-6 or meet the requirements indicated below. Please note that requirements listed in part I (elementary education PreK-6 core requirements) and part II (professional studies) must be completed.
PART I: PreK-6 CORE REQUIREMENTS

English-12 semester hours
The 12 semester hours must include:
  • Composition
  • Oral Communication
  • Literature
  •    
    Mathematics-12 semester hours    
    Science-12 semester hours
    MUST INCLUDE A LABORATORY COURSE
       
    History-9 semester hours
    The 9 semester hours in history must include:
  • American history
  • World history
  •    
     Social science-6 semester hours
    The 6 semester hours in social science must include:
  • Geography
  • Economics
  •    
    Arts and humanities-6 semester hours    
     Computer/technology-3 semester hours    

    "Individuals applying for an initial license through the alternate route as prescribed by the Board of Education must meet the following criteria to be eligible to request experiential learning credits in lieu of the coursework for the endorsement (teaching) content area":

    • Hold a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university;
    • Have atleast five years of documented full-time work experience that may include
      specialized training related to the endorsement sought; and
    • Have met qualifying score on the content knowledge assessment prescribed by the Board of Education.
