PreK-12 Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL): Licensure Only

For individuals who have a non-teaching Bachelor's degree and wish to qualify for a Virginia teaching license in Teacher of English to Speakers of Other Languages PreK-12.

Admission:

1. Hold at least a bachelor's degree with an undergraduate GPA of at least 2.75. Note: Provisional admission is possible for students with a GPA below 2.75.

2. Passing scores on PRAXIS I or the SAT/ACT as prescribed by the Virginia DOE.

3. Submit the Teacher Licensure Application to the Office of Teacher Education Services and Advising, Education Building, Room 152.

4. Meet with an advisor prior to beginning this program of study.

Continuance and Exit:

1. Complete all academic "content" courses required for licensure in ESL and in professional education courses as outlined on the program advising form with at least a C- or higher.

2. Maintain a GPA of 2.75 overall, in the content area, and in the professional education courses.

3. Passing scores on the Virginia Communication and Literacy Assessment (VCLA) as prescribed by Virginia DOE.
