KaaVonia Hinton-Johnson

KaaVonia Hinton-Johnson is an assistant professor in Educational Curriculum and Instruction. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in English Education and a Masters of Art degree in African American and English literature both from North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University in Greensboro, North Carolina. Her doctorate in English Education was earned in 2003 at The Ohio State University. Hinton-Johnson's scholarship focuses on literacy materials created specifically for blacks; literature for adults, children and young adults, especially works labeled multicultural; critical biographies of black writers, and literary criticism. Her work has been published in Social Education, MultiCultural Review, Journal of Children's Literature and English Journal. She has also contributed to encyclopedias such as the Encyclopedia of African American Literature, Encyclopedia of Ethnic American Literature and Feminist Encyclopedia of African American Literature. Her reviews of young adult and children's literature are found regularly in Kliatt, VOYA, and ForeWord Magazine.
