Scholarly Pursuit
It has always been a personal quest of mine to obtain a PhD. I always told myself that the ‘right’ fit would come along, and it did. Currently pursuing the PhD in ID&T, I am really interested in Community of Inquiry along with self-efficacy in the online environment.
Professional Activities and History
I graduate from Virginia Tech with a Masters in Education – Higher Education Administration degree in 1994. I worked at Tidewater Tech for a year until I was able to obtain a position at Old Dominion University in the spring of 1996. Until recently, January of this year, I worked in Distance Learning as Director of Asynchronous Programs in the student support services area. I became interested in instructional design, etc. while in the distance learning field, and foresee myself staying in a higher education setting as a faculty member or instructional designer.
Background
I am an Army brat and was born in Ft. Riley, Kansas. My father was career military, so I moved constantly over the first 18 years of my life. I went to high school at Denbigh High in Newport News and from there attended Virginia Tech…GO HOKIES! I earned both my B.S. and M.A.Ed. at Tech and am a die-hard Hokie fan! I currently live at “The Beach”.
I participate in Triathlons and Duathlons and find that this keeps me pretty healthy both physically and emotionally. I love to bike, run, hike, scuba dive, lounge on the beach, ski, golf, mountain bike, horseback ride, and have fun with my friends. I love college football, GO HOKIES, baseball…Mets and Red Sox, Golf, etc.
