Online Program for New School Librarians

Are you interested in becoming a School Library Media Specialist?

You can apply to an on-line graduate program to educate teachers to become school library media specialists.  This program is offered on-line through Old Dominion University.  To see if online learning is right for you, visit the ODU Distance Learning Student Orientation Website.

To be eligible for consideration for the online cohort, you should be:

·   Licensed as a teacher in the Commonwealth of Virginia  (Minimum of Collegiate Professional License)

·   Seeking endorsement as a school library media specialist (This program is designed to recruit NEW LMS to the profession and is not for individuals who already have an endorsement as an LMS)

·   Teaching/residing outside Virginia Superintendent's Regional Study Group Region 2, except for Accomack and Northampton Counties on the Eastern Shore are given priority for the online cohort program.   

There are two options in the program: 

1. Endorsement on your current teaching certificate.

2. Endorsement plus master's degree.

Contact your superintendent or personnel director to determine if there is funding within your school division to assist you with tuition.  Tuition rate information is available from the Office of Finance. Financial Aid information for graduate students is supplied by ODU's Financial Aid Office.
