Advising

To meet national accreditation standards, portfolios will be required for all students licensed through ODU beginning August 1, 2007. Students who are student teaching should turn in their portfolios by May 1(for summer student teaching) or by December1 (for spring student teaching) of any given year.   Students who are not student teaching must submit the portfolio with their college verification form (O-35) that is sent to the VDOE. Portfolios should be turned in using LiveText.

How does LS advising work?

When you have an initial meeting with your advisor, you will be given a plan of work sheet.  A copy will be retained in your file.  As long as you take classes on your plan of work, you do not need to contact your advisor before registering.  Students in cohorts or contract courses will receive their section numbers through their current instructor, and will be able to register for their next class or classes.

Open enrollment classes will be offered according to the following schedule.

Learning Resource Center (LRC)

The LRC is located in the Education Building on the second floor room 244 and has a GA to assist you.  Ask for help, suggestions, or use the GA as a sounding board to bounce off ideas.  A database of the trade books located in the LRC is also available for the GA to search specific titles, authors, or subjects for you.

Trade Books

The most current titles in children's through young adult literature directly from the publishers are available for checkout to students and faculty.  Trade books may be checked out for up to 2 weeks.

Textbooks

The LRC has textbooks for grades K-12 that are used in Virginia schools and correlate to the Virginia SOL's!  They are great for writing lesson plans.  These are reference materials and only to be used in the LRC.

Free Supplies

Posters, bookmarks, old texts, trade books, or teacher resource guides may from time-to-time show up in the LRC for patrons to have.  Just ask about free stuff when you stop by to use the LRC.
