M.S.Ed. in Educational Leadership

Emphasis: Administration and Supervision PreK-12, web-based format

The Master of Science in Education in Educational Leadership and Services prepares individuals to take on leadership roles in schools and school districts. Graduates form a network of outstanding leaders for our schools. Programs lead to full Commonwealth of Virginia Licensure in Educational Administration and Supervision, PreK-12. Programs provide conceptual and theoretical knowledge, as well as practical field experience, with a broad context. The successful completion of 36 semester hours leads to a Master of Science in Education and Virginia Principal and Supervision Licensure.

Admission:
Students must:

  1. meet all University requirements;
  2. have an undergraduate point average of 2.80 overall and 3:00 in the major;
  3. provide two letters of recommendation, including one from an administrator who will serve as the student's  sponsor/mentor;  
  4. complete a one-page essay explaining who he/she should be admitted into the program; and,
  5. have an acceptable score on the Graduate Record Examination or the Miller Analogies Test

In addition, all students who wish to enter the administration and supervision program with Commonwealth of Virginia accreditation must satisfactory complete an administrative skills portfolio. ELS 600 must be the first course in which students enroll. Performance in classes as a non-degree student will not be taken into consideration in the admission process.

Continuance:  
Students must meet all University and program requirement including the administrative skill portfolio and must maintain a 3.00 graduate average. Those seeking the Administration and Supervision PreK-12 endorsement on their Commonwealth of Virginia Postgraduate Professional license must take and pass the School Leaders License Assessment (SLLA).

Completion:
Student must successfully complete the program with:

  1. the School Leader License Assessment (SLLA);
  2. the requirement course of study;
  3. the administrative skills assessment portfolio, observation and practicum, and internship; and,
  4. a minimum 3.00 grade point average in order to graduate

Prerequisite Course: (3 credit hours)

ELS 600     Principal Orientation and Instructional Leader
This course must be taken first and initiates the portfolio you will keep throughout your program.
