Ph.D. in Education with Concentration in Educational Leadership

The Ph.D. program in Educational Leadership is a new program at Old Dominion University. The Ph.D. program will fulfill part of the requirements for the Division Superintendent's license, if a student already maintains an Administration and Supervision PreK through 12 license. The concentration area of Educational Leadership does not, however, lead to licensure in a school leadership area.


M.S.Ed. in Educational Leadership

Emphasis: Administration and Supervision PreK-12

The Master of Science in Education in Educational Leadership and Services prepares individuals to take on leadership roles in schools and school districts. Graduates form a network of outstanding leaders for our schools. Programs lead to full Commonwealth of Virginia Licensure in Educational Administration and Supervision, Pre- Kindgarten-12. Programs provide conceptual and theoretical knowledge, as well as practical field experience, with a broad context. The successful completion of 36 semester hours leads to a Master of Science in Education and Virginia Principal and Supervision Licensure.


Educational Leadership (Ed.S. with licensure)

The Ed.S. program may accept exceptional students, under special conditions,  who have a master's degree in another area and do not have a license in administration supervision PreK-12. These students would complete the following 39 semester hours of coursework to lead to licensure as an administrator. The classes marked with an asterisk are required classes for licensure. The Ed.S. with licensure in Educational Leadership degree primarily designed to prepare candidates for leadership roles in public school administration at the central office level. The successful completion of 36 semester hours leads to an Education Specialist with licensure degree.


Educational Leadership (licensure only track)

The licensure only track in Educational Leadership allows teachers to obtain the Educational Principal Licensure Endorsement if they already have a Master's degree and teaching license. Candidates will be recommended for provisional endorsement is they have less than 3 years of full-time successful teaching experience.


Educational Leadership (Education and Training Management Sub-Specialty Program - Military only)

The ETMS program emphasizes the need for effective, efficient managers to fill vital functions within the Naval Training Command, and its purpose is to educate and prepare officers to fill training and education management billets. The ETMS program is a 36-semester hour program in which the student takes a course from each of the educational skill requirements, except for the training, Research and Development area where the student must take two courses. The educational skill requirements account for 33 hours and the student is required to take an additional 3-hour course taught by a Navy Training team.


Ed.S. in Educational Leadership

Emphasis Area: Administration and Supervision

The Ed.S. in Educational Leadership degree is designed to further develop the knowledge and skills necessary for assuming leadership roles in public and private schools, in colleges and universities, and in other education-training related organizations. The Ed.S. degree is primarily designed to prepare candidates for leadership roles in public school administration at the central office level. A master's degree in educational leadership or the equivalent and licensure in administration supervision PreK-12 are required.
