Admission, Continuance and Exit Requirements
In order to be admitted as a graduate student at Old Dominion University, the student must have:
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited four year college or university (accredited Institution, not program)
- The Board of Certification (BOC) credential as an athletic trainer OR have graduated from a CAATE accredited entry level athletic training education program and are eligible to take the BOC exam
- A 3.0 overall grade point average in undergraduate work
- A 3.0 grade point average in all science/athletic training prerequisite course work
- And attain a score of 900 on the aptitiude (verbal and quantitative) section of the Graduate Record Examination). A student will be required to take the GRE at least twice if a score of 900 is not attained.
Applicants who do not meet these general academic standards may be admitted into the program on a provisional basis and may earn regular status by achieving a B (3.0) average after 12 hours of graduate work. Admission as a graduate student at Old Dominion University does not imply an acceptance into the Graduate Athletic Training Education Program. Acceptance into the program requires a separate application.The application deadline is February 1, however applications will be reviewed as soon as they are complete. Interviews are required and scheduled through invitation from the program director.

Continuance and Exit Requirements
Students must meet all requirements for continuance as outlined in the graduate continuance policy for the University. Students completing the program of study must 1) have an overall grade point average of 3.00; 2) have a GPA of 3.00 in the major; 3) demonstrate writing proficiency; 4) satisfy all course competencies; 5)pass a comprehensive examination; 6) complete a research project or thesis; 7) have an exit interview with the program director; and 8) file the necessary paperwork for graduation.
