Old Dominion University Community Development Corporation

The Old Dominion University Community Development Corporation (ODU CDC) was established in March 22, 2006.    The purpose of the CDC is to engage in a variety of activities primarily intended to (a) revitalize the communities  (b) develop the human and physical capital of the neighborhoods, (c) improve the lives of the residents of neighborhoods, and (d) support the community development interests of Old Dominion University (ODU).  By linking its academic and research expertise and its financial commitment with the energy, resources, and inspired commitment of neighborhood residents and businesses, ODU embarked on the civic-reform partnership to restore and revitalize communities. Currently, the ODU CDC is the only university sponsored community development corporation operating in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

The ODU CDC is a broad, grassroots partnership that involves neighborhood residents and organizations, local churches, government officials, the business community and public schools. A 17 member voluntary Board of Directors chaired by the ODU President governs the ODU CDC.  These members were chosen for their vision, knowledge of transformational leadership, experience and knowledge of the community.
