Why Choose ODU READY?

ODU READY is an innovative program that aims to ensure that individuals with intellectual disabilities have the knowledge and skills sets necessary for successful integration into their communities.

Upon completion of the curriculum, READY students will receive a transcript as evidence of their educational experience, as well as a Certificate for Lifelong Ability from Old Dominion University.  This certificate is an invaluable employment tool for READY Students as they continue to work and thrive as contributing members of their communities post-graduation.*

Campus Involvement

READY Students receive ODU Student ID Cards and email accounts, which give them access to all campus-related activities and events.  READY students are encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities, both on and off campus. ODU READY staff and therapeutic recreation students will facilitate READY students' participation in student organizations and clubs, volunteer opportunities, and recreational activities, such as intramural sports and college fitness classes.

Vocational Experience

ODU READY addresses vocational skills and resources throughout the program to promote the highest level of independence post-graduation.  READY students gain practical work experience through inclusive volunteering and integrated employment opportunities throughout the two year curriculum.  Volunteer and employment experiences are with businesses on and near the campus to give READY students the opportunity to practice their vocational, social, and communication skills on the campus and out in the community.

*Please note that this is not a degree-seeking program, but READY students will receive a certificate of completion from the ODUR program.  Graduation from the ODU READY Program does not result in a degree from Old Dominion University.
