The Kiwanis Parenting Center and Library
Old Dominion Universitys Kiwanis Parenting Center, a resource for the Hampton Roads community, provides education, training, research and support services for parents, professionals and Old Dominion students. Its purpose, which is to benefit children and enhance the lives of families, is realized through lectures, workshops, seminars and support groups conducted by and for community and University personnel and patrons. It is located on the second floor of the Lions Child Study Center and includes a large lecture hall, a parent library and a childrens play room.
The Parenting Library is located in the Child Study Center in Room 242. The library is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and during "Parent Chat" hours.
The library is a wonderful resource for parents as well as early childhood education students. Parent Library book subjects include: Child Development, Parents and Families, Promoting a Young Childs Self - Concept, Discipline Issues, Education and Child Theory, Behavior Problems, Understanding Play, Ways to Encourage Reading, Health and Nutrition, Helping Children with Special Needs, Sibling Birth and Rivalry, The Gifted Child, Divorce, Blended Families and Step-Parenting, Death and Grieving, Teaching Curriculum Resources.
