Welcome to the Military Career Transition Program

Designed with the needs and interests of the military person and their spouse in mind, the Military Career Transition Program (MCTP) is a graduate, off-campus, evening, and weekend initial teacher licensure program. It is specifically geared towards military and Department of Defense (DoD) personnel and their spouses. Upon completion of the master of science in education and additional state licensure requirements, participants are eligible for licensure in the State of Virginia. Licensure grade levels include elementary education (PreK-6), middle school (6-8), and secondary (6-12); endorsements are available in the areas of math, sciences (earth science, biology, chemistry, and physics), English, social studies and technology education. Participants seeking technology education should contact the Department of Occupational and Technical Studies.

IMPORTANT: All individuals seeking admission into any Teacher Education Program upon enrolling/registering for their first Education class are required to purchase LiveText, the Web-based Portfolio Assessment System approved by the Teacher Education Council. In addition, any student taking a course in which the instructor requires the LiveText will be required to purchase this system. This must be purchased either from ODU bookstore or https://c1.livetext.com/ . You do NOT need the subscription with Unitedstreaming. Make sure to register with your official ODU name and your UIN. Preparation Workshop for Praxis II Mathematics Content Knowledge (0061). Next workshop starts 3/19/09.

Pre-Registration for Summer/Fall 2009 begins April 13th.  Be sure to make an appointment with your advisor.

Starting Spring 2010, all teacher candidate interns will be required to take ECI 583 Seminar in Education the semester prior to student teaching.

Starting Spring 2009, VCLA must be completed and passed prior to student teaching semester.

The comprehensive exam for the Summer  2009 semester will be held the 3rd week in June- check with your site for specific information on date/time.
