About The Department

The Department of Occupational and Technical Studies offers five majors under the degree of Bachelor of Science in occupational and technical studies. The five bachelor’s-level majors offered by the department are marketing education, technology education, training specialist, fashion, and industrial technology.

At the graduate level, the department offers the degree of Master of Science in occupational and technical studies with majors in community college teaching (occupational and technical), business and industry training, and middle and secondary education teaching and a major within the Education Specialist in educational leadership. Additionally, the department supports the M.S. in Modeling and Simulation (College of Engineering and Technology) by offering a cognate in simulation-based instruction.

The department has a concentration in the PhD in Education . The Occupational and Technical Studies doctoral concentration has emphasis in career and technical education, technology education, and human resources training. This degree prepares graduates as university professors, school administrators, administrators of career and technical education programs, and training and development managers and researchers.

The department also offers minors in marketing education, fashion merchandising, and training and development, a certificate in industrial training, and licensure/endorsement programs in marketing teacher education, technology teacher education, vocational special needs education, industrial cooperative training, and vocational evaluation.

Students interested in these programs of study should consult the appropriate program leader or the graduate program director regarding program requirements and selection of courses.
