Reading for Virginia Educators (RVE)

Effective July 1, 2011, the Virginia Department of Education will implement changes in the required reading assessments for certain endorsements. For teachers seeking an initial license with endorsements in Early/Primary Education PK-3, Elementary Education PK-6, Special Education - General Curriculum, Special Education - Hearing Impairments, and Special Education - Visual Impairments, the required reading assessment will be Reading for Virginia Educators: Elementary and Special Education (RVE). For teachers seeking an endorsement as a Reading Specialist, the required assessment will be  Reading for Virginia Educators: Reading Specialist (RVE for Reading Specialists).

The Reading for Virginia Educators (RVE) assessmets are part of the Praxis II Series. To register go to the links indicated below.

(Click on the link and then click on Test Centers and Dates and select "Praxis II Test Dates and Deadlines."  The RVE is part of the Praxis II series and is administered on the same test dates as all Praxis II assessments.)

Approved Scores by the Virginia Board of Education 

  • RVE:  Early/Primary Education PreK-3, Elementary Education PreK-6, Special Education-General Curriculum, Special Education Education-Hearing Impairments, and Special Education -Visual Impairments approved passing score is 157.
  • RVE: Reading Specialist approved passing score is 162.
