The professional education preparation programs at Old Dominion University are accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the Virginia Department of Education.
Admissions Requirements for Post-baccalaureate Endorsement Programs
Regular Admission
- have earned a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 for all undergraduate college credits taken prior to the award of the baccalaureate degree
- submit official trasncript in a sealed envelope with your application documents
- passing scores on Praxis I or approved equivalent scores as prescribed by the Board of Education
Provisional Admission
- Have earned a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution with a minimum cumulative GPA between 2.50 and 2.74 for all undergraduate college credits taken prior to the award of the baccalaureate degree
- Passing scores on Praxis I or achieved SAT, ACT or VCLA/Praxis I-Mathematics scores as prescribed by the Board of Education

NOTE: To gain Regular Admission from provisional admission, the student must complete at least 6 credits of 300/400 academic content knowledge courses from Old Dominion University as designated by the program advisor, and pass with at least a grade of B in each course.

Post-baccalaureate Endorsement Programs
The Post-baccalaureate Endorsement program is for individuals who have completed a Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution and wish to qualify for a Virginia teaching license.
- preK-3 early childhood education (currently available on-campus only to graduates of the BS Interdisciplinary Studies Teacher Preparation program)
- preK-6 elementary education
- preK-12 art education
- preK-12 foreign languages - French, Spanish, German
- K-12 health and physical education
- special education
- middle (6-8) education
- secondary (6-12) education
biology, chemistry, English, earth science, history/social studies, physics, mathematics - English as a second language
- library science
- marketing education
- technology education
- preK-12 administration and supervision
Individuals who have a valid Virginia license and wish to add an endorsement may select any of the following add-on endorsements:
- computer science
- algebra
- journalism
- industrial cooperative training
